PbD will enable cloud providers to consider privacy issues at the design stage of their service. Thus, by including privacy measures into the software and hardware systems from the beginning, the risks are reduced. Costs for implementing data protection measures are also kept to a minimum, because integration at the planning stage is more cost-effective than implementation of requirements once the system is running and available on the market. A further essential ingredient to maintaining the level of protection is the employment of dedicated Chief Privacy Officers (CPO). These officers are necessary because the technology and the legal environment are changing rapidly, requiring someone with specialized knowledge in law and technology to keep up to date with these changes.
